Welcome to the Department of Geography

The Department of Geography offers the BA, MA and PhD degrees. We offer comprehensive and relevant curricula at all levels and have major research specialties in social and environmental justice, and climatology and hazards.  We are especially interested in these relative to the urban environment and their impact on human health and well-being.   While preparing our students with a strong theoretical base, our approach is very applied, utilizing state-of-the art geospatial technologies to understand these complex human-environment interactions.

Special Birthday Announcement for James Rinier

James Rinier

Many of you remember Emeritus Professor James Rinier, he is due to celebrate his 90th birthday on May 22nd. We are encouraging all his students and friends to shower him with cards and/or letters of congratulations! Jim does his best to join us every spring for the Honor’s Day celebration and usually awards the Rinier Scholarship himself. It is always quite an occasion when he visits and gives us a department history lesson. Recently he moved to North Carolina. If you need his address, please contact the office.
