Program Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences Kent State University features a Graduate Biology Program that offers MS and PhD degrees as well as an innovative MA program. Students in the MS and PhD Graduate Biology Programs programs work in a variety of different research areas including aquatic ecology , evolutionary biology , neurobiology and behavior, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and reproductive physiology/endocrinology. In addition, students mentored by Biological Sciences faculty members can be trained in the School of Biomedical Sciences. The graduate programs in the Department of Biological Sciences are multifaceted; graduate students engage in research at scales ranging from the molecular to the ecosystem. Regardless of the system, advanced methodology is applied to answer crucial questions in several fields including neuroscience, ecology, physiology, cell/molecular biology and evolutionary biology. Throughout the program graduate students are given the opportunity to explore their chosen field, learn about the fields of their fellow students, develop professionally and contribute to the greater community. In many cases, beyond an individual lab group, students and their faculty mentors are parts of larger clusters comprised of faculty members and students with complementary interests. These unique thematic clusters facilitate professional development of each student as they follow their chosen career pathway and work collaboratively as part of a larger community.
