When I try to go to WFS or WFFA, I get the error “access denied” or “external system error.”  Why does this happen?  Did I do something wrong?  Did someone try to access my account and exceeded my attempts?

After 3 unsuccessful attempts for logging in to Pipeline, your account will be disabled.   As a security precaution, this discourages break-in attempts by unauthorized persons.   Call the helpdesk (330-672-4357) or e-mail support at
helpdesk@kent.edu.  Your account may be accidentally disabled by a first time user who does not know his/her correct username, such as the case where a username is asmith1, the user may think his/her username is asmith.

Is there a maximum size per attachment that I may send?

Yes, the maximum size for an attachment is equal to your current storage quota.

May I use Outlook, Outlook Express or another IMAP or POP client to read e-mail?

Yes, if you’re an administrator or off campus, dorm students may not pop or use imap at this time.  You may set up your client to send and receive your FlashLine mail. You must select IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) as your incoming mail server type. During setup, you must configure your incoming (IMAP) server to be pop.kent.edu. If off campus your outgoing (SMTP) server must be the SMTP of your Internet Service Provider (ISP).  On campus, this will be smtp.kent.edu.

If you need help setting up an IMAP Client on campus, please contact KSU helpdesk at 330-672-4357 or email helpdesk@kent.edu.  We support Eudora, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, but will assist you with other products.

Why am I having problems using my AOL browser to connect to FlashLine?

Due to the way AOL browsers handle JavaScript, using an AOL browser may cause you some problems.

To connect to FlashLine using AOL.

  • First log into your AOL account.
  • Minimize (do not close) the AOL browser.
  • Open Internet Explorer, Netscape or Firefox.
  •  Enter the correct URL for FlashLine – flashline.kent.edu

What if I forget my password?  Or how do I change my password?  Can I reset it myself?

Refer to:
https://flashword.kent.edu/kent/nph-psf.exe

How can I print an e-mail?

Right click your mouse and select Print.

Can I use characters in my password (%$#@&*)?

Yes

What information is available through FlashLine?

You can check for new e-mail, review your grades, class schedules and register via FlashLine by selecting the WFS (web for students) tab.  You log onto FlashLine using your kent.edu userid and password.

The default password provided on my letter doesn’t work.

Call the helpdesk (330-672-4357) and we will reset the password back to the default.

Why can’t I reply or compose?

Usually this is caused by a pop-up blocker.

  • Internet Explorer (Service Pack 2, added pop-up blocking)
  • Select View then Toolbars.
  • If you have any toolbar selected other than address bar, links, lock the toolbar then uncheck them.  AOL, Google, Yahoo, Norton and other toolbars all have pop-up blocker.
  • Next select Tools>Pop-up Blocker> Click on turn off pop-up blocker then
    Select Pop-up Blocker Settings

How can I forward my FlashLine e-mail to another e-mail account?

  • Log into FlashLine
  • Select Options
  • Select Settings
  • Click in the Mail Forwarding box enter the full email of the account you want your FlashLine email forwarded too.   (Example:   jsk344@yahoo.com)

I’m having trouble opening attachments in FlashLine.

Hold the Ctrl key down on the keyboard and then select the attachment.

I’ve just deleted a ton of e-mails and I still get the over quota warning.  What’s wrong?

Select Folders and empty the trash.

Is there a way to filter mail into folders in FlashLine?

This option is not available in FlashLine.  However, we do have a spam filter that does check for spam and can be modified to check for other items.
https://spam.kent.edu/login.html

FlashLine times out after 10 minutes of inactivity, can this be changed?

Yes, click on "My Account", (upper left corner) from the "Change Timeout window", use the drop-down box and select your desired timeout.   If you extend your timeout and leave your workstation logged in to Campus Pipeline, someone can access your account for this timeout period.   Change this at your own risk.

How can I change my email address to reflect my new name?

Students requesting a change of name must be currently enrolled and must present a photo ID as well as legal documentation, such as a court order, marriage license, birth certificate, or an adoption order to the registration office of the campus where you wish to enroll. You may
access a form on-line to be printed, completed and returned to the registration office of the campus where you wish to enroll. All requests for personal data changes must be accompanied by required legal documentation. All photocopies of documents must be notarized for authenticity.

After the name change has been processed by the Registrar’s Office then contact the help desk at 330-672-4357 and we will change your email address to reflect your new name.
