Admissions

Programs with special admission criteria/deadlines

The following areas of study have admission criteria higher than or different from the criteria described under "Admission Requirements."
Applicants who are not admitted to the programs below but who qualify for admission to Kent State will be admitted as general majors.

Aeronautics

Entry into the aeronautics program requires at least a 2.25 GPA in all college coursework.

Architecture
A transfer student with a 3.0 cumulative GPA based on 24 or more semester hours of college-level coursework will be considered for admission. Applicants who have completed one year of English composition (6 semester hours) and Analytical Geometry/Calculus (MATH 12002) are encouraged to apply for admission to Theory of Architecture I and II during the summer session. Enrollment in these summer courses could reduce the time required to earn the degree by as much as one year. The application deadline is May 1.

Art
Applicants meeting the general transfer requirement for admission (2.0 cumulative GPA) will receive an art application from the School of Art. A portfolio must be submitted for review.

Business
A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 (2.25 for economics) is required for admission into the College of Business Administration. Students who have previously attended Kent State must also have a minimum 2.50 GPA (2.25 for economics) in their former Kent State coursework.

Those students meeting this GPA requirement but with less than 24 semester hours will be evaluated as new freshmen. Admission to the fashion design major is limited to the fall semester only. Applicants to the fashion design major meeting the academic criteria above will be invited to complete a portfolio assignment. The priority deadline for transfer students to complete the portfolio assignment is Feb. 1; therefore, students should submit a complete admissions application at least one month prior. The final deadline to submit the portfolio assignment for transfer students is July 1. The top students based on the evaluation of the portfolio assignment will be admitted to the fashion design major.

Interior Design
A transfer applicant must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA based on a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level coursework. Preinterior design courses are required for admission into the interior design major. Students from FIDER-recognized interior design programs may bypass the preinterior design designation and be admitted directly into interior design if they present an approved portfolio and have achieved the minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
