Financial Assistance
Undergraduate
International students are encouraged to apply for undergraduate scholarships at Kent State University. Applications are available online at the Student Financial Aid website. Students in the top 20th percentile within their graduating class may be eligible for Honors College scholarships. Most academic scholarships are based upon academic performance rather than on financial need. Scholarships do not require repayments and are often renewable if students meet specific academic expectations. Other scholarship programs are based on athletics or leadership. International Freshman Scholarship Program
The International Freshman Scholarship program is available to any non immigrant to the United States who is an incoming undergraduate student to Kent State University. Graduate
Financial assistance at the graduate level is available in three forms. The first and most available is a graduate assistantship. In return for up to 20 hours of work per week during the academic year, the student will receive a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. The second, a teaching or research fellowship, offers a full tuition waiver and monthly stipend and allows students to focus exclusively on teaching or research rather than departmental duties. The third form is a scholarship that may require external funding or may involve university or departmental competition.Students are expected to apply for financial assistance before or simultaneous with an application for admission. Only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to apply for federal financial aid. International student loans may be available. Sources of financial assistance providing partial support for international graduate students include both service and non-service appointments. Students wishing to apply for any of these should contact either the chair or the graduate coordinator of their major department. The application for a graduate appointment is included as part of your application packet for admission to Kent State.
Financial Documentation
All international applicants to Kent State University must be able to document that they have the financial resources needed to support their educational and living expenses for at least one full year. Your financial support is usually verified by two documents:- A completed Financial Information Worksheet (provided with the application for admission).
- A bank statement or a bank letter from the appropriate financial institution signed by an official. (Such a statement may also be in the form of an affidavit).
