Scholarships and Awards in the School of Art

If you need help paying for art school, we’re here to assist. You can receive merit- and need-based aid through our scholarship opportunities. All scholarships are awarded through the Student Financial Aid, so applicants must have a FAFSA on file In the Student Financial Aid office prior to application (you can start on that now). You must be registered full-time for the semester for which the scholarship is awarded.

  • The School of Art First-Year Scholarships
Multiple awards, in varying amounts, to art majors in any discipline completing their first year. Based on portfolio review (portfolio of 15 to 20) works created while enrolled at KSU) or, for art history and art education majors, a writing sample (research paper created while enrolled at KSU), as well as academic standing and financial need.  Apply here
  • The Sixth Street Competition
A $1000 prize based on your original essay, open to any undergraduate student enrolled in School of Art classes during the spring (2014) (you do not need to be an art major to participate.)

The 6th Street Competition challenges you to write an essay that addresses the following questions: What have you learned about art and how has it shaped your thinking? Is there a connection between the nature of art and humanity? While you may reference existing theories concerning art and humanity, successful essays will present original ideas or interpretations on the topic.  Apply here
  • The Marjorie L. Collins Scholarship
One award made in memory of art alumna Marjorie Collins, for a student working toward the BFA degree in the School of Art, based on portfolio of 15–20 works created at KSU, strong academic standing, and financial need. May be renewed annually based on the same criteria, updated to reflect current art works and/or research.   Apply here
  • The William & Hazel Schock Scholarships
In memory of two outstanding KSU painting faculty members who perished in an auto accident in 1974: One $2000 award to an outstanding graduate student, two $1500 awards to outstanding undergraduates in any major, based on a portfolio of 15–20 works of drawing/painting.  Apply here
  • The Thomas D.Little Prize for Excellence in Printmaking

In memory of master printer Tom Little, KSU art student in the mid 1970's, two prizes (1 undergrad, 1 graduate). This prize will be awarded based on a physical portfolio of at least 10 works to be submitted to the Printmaking department.

  • The Anthony Bartholomew/Zygote Press Residency
A residency opportunity for graduating MFA/BFA students, provided by Zygote Press (Cleveland, Ohio), in memory of KSU Printmaking MFA alumnus Anthony Bartholomew. This residency offers a two-week residency (each June) at Zygote, with a $500 stipend. This residency is awarded based on a physical portfolio of at least 10 works to be submitted to the Printmaking department.   Apply here
