Museum Collection Information Management
This workshop will start with the definition of a museum and the code of ethics for museums. In this context, students will discuss the various institutional processes that aid the physical and intellectual organization and care of a collection. Topics will include accessioning/deaccessioning, cataloging, condition reporting, storage methods, loans, insurance, packing/crating/shipping, art handling, climate control and collection management systems. On-site tours of storage at the Kent State University Museum will facilitate in-depth discussion of some of the workshop material.

Kent State University Museum is offering a series of workshops surrounding museum collections. Join your colleagues from museums, historical societies, historical houses and special collections to meet for a two-day workshop that is geared for collections professionals as well as emerging museum and collections professionals to learn and network together.
Based on the museum code of ethics, we'll cover the physical and intellectual organization of collections including:
- Accessioning and deaccessioning
- Cataloging Condition reporting
- Storage methods
- Loans
- Insurance
- Packing/crating/shipping
- Art handling
- Climate control
- Collections management systems
- An onsite tour of the museum & collections will help facilitate in depth discussion of preservation techniques and storage options.
