Podiatric Surgery

Foot Surgery
The Department of Surgery allows the student to work with patients from the preoperative assessment stage, the invasive procedure, and throughout the postoperative follow-up of patient care. Courses include:

  • Podiatric Surgery, a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques of surgery, with emphasis on wound healing, closure techniques, hemostasis, lower extremity tourniquets, surgical procedures, hospital protocol, charting and instrumentation, as well as the management of deformities of the foot, ankle and lower leg
  • Traumatology, a broad overview of the major trauma areas of the foot, including the midfoot, rearfoot, ankle and lower leg
  • Introduction to Patient Care, students will observe and assist in the development of differential diagnoses and patient management under the supervision of residents and faculty members
  • Standardized Patient, students will have the opportunity to interview standardized patients and receive feedback on their patient interviewing and history recording skills which will prepare them to function competently in a doctor/patient encounter
