Name: Katie Braun

Scholarship received: Yaro John Sojka Scholarship

Year: Sophomore

Major: Mild to Moderate Special Education

Hometown: Willowick, Ohio

Why she chose her major: In high school I was involved in sports and as a team we visited a school with children with disabilities. I enjoyed playing basketball and eating lunch with them. I felt very comfortable in that setting and decided that's what I wanted to do as a career.

Hobbies: I work at Rosie's on campus, play the guitar and listen to music.

Favorite class: Introduction to Human Communication

Julie Blakeman

Scholarship: Linerode-Irmiter Scholarship in Hospitality Management

Summer break job: I interned at Yellowstone National Park at Grant Village Lodge. I was a shift supervisor at the lodge, which sees 3.4 million visitors come through the area each year.

Hobbies: I work at the campus recreation center, and I like to scrapbook, hike, bike, kayak, geochaching, and playing soccer. Also, I enjoy volunteering and have participated in cleaning up the Cuyahoga Parks and helping at animal shelters.

Favorite class: Hospitality Meetings Management with Dr. Swathi Ravichandran

Future plans: I would like to work at other national and/or state park concessionaires. I previously worked for Xanterra Parks and Resorts at two different locations: Punderson Manor Lodge and Conference Center and Yellowstone National Park. Park concessionaires make an effort to be sustainable, which I appreciate because I truly love the outdoors.
