Adolescent and Young Adult Education
The College of Education at Kent State University is one of the major teacher preparation schools in the nation enjoying an enviable reputation nationally and the respect of professional educators at all levels.
The Adolescence To Young Adult Education (ADED) Program is an important component of the college and is housed in the Teaching, Leadership, and Curriculum Studies Department. ADED, formerly the Secondary Education Program, dates back to the early years of the University. Over the years ADED has established a tradition of program excellence based on the recognized quality of its thousands of graduates.
The undergraduate program in ADED is fully accredited to provide teacher licensure in eight major academic areas: Earth Science, Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Mathematics, Integrated Science, Integrated Social Studies, Life Sciences, Life Science/Chemistry, and Physical Sciences.
The graduate program in C&I offers master's degrees (M.Ed.and M.A.) with emphases in Mathematics Education, English Language Arts Education, Science Education and Social Studies Education, through which teachers may expand their pedagogical base, increase their instructional skills, and further develop their expertise in their subject area.
A Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Degree is also offered and provides initial certification/licensure to persons who already have a bachelor's degree in a certifiable subject area.
An Ed.S. and a Ph.D. degree program are also offered through the Curriculum and Instruction Program. Depending on your interests these advanced degrees may be be for you.
The faculty of the Adolescence to Young Adult Education Program includes full-time college faculty and adjunct faculty with recent 7-12 teaching experience. The ADED faculty takes pride in modeling teacher research, pedagogical scholarship and instructional skill for students in the program. All faculty members enjoy extensive national experience in the areas of teacher education and modern school practices.
