Program Description:
The Cultural Foundations master degree programs are concerned with the study of educational policies and practices from social, philosophical, historical, and comparative perspectives. The individualized programs are designed to provide educators in school and nonschool settings with the skills necessary to interpret educational policies and analyze educational activities in various situations.
Admission/Prerequisite Requirements:
The Graduate School of Education admits students to master's programs on a selective basis. Minimum requirements for admission the M.Ed./M.A. programs include an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 from a 4.0 scale. Postbaccalaureate or prior graduate study will be taken into consideration when interpreting grade-point averages. Applicants who do not meet the GPA standard may, in special cases, be considered for conditional admission upon the recommendation of the program area.
Courses required:
Total of 32 hours of graduate coursework including at least 16 semester hours at the 6000 level or above. Students must select one course (3 cr) from the Research category. They may substitute a UPR approved program area research course. Students must select one course (3 cr) from the Psychological Foundations or Social and Cultural Foundations categories.
