PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The 12 credit hour Teacher Leader Endorsement program facilitated by Kent State University responds to changes in the preparation and licensing of Pre K-12 in the state of Ohio. The program will fulfill a need to prepare individuals to serve as teacher leaders, both in official and unofficial roles.

RATIONALE FOR THE TEACHER LEADER ENDORSEMENT
The four-year teacher residency, available to candidates who graduate from an accredited teacher preparation program, provides Ohio's educators with the coaching, mentoring and guidance that is imperative for long and successful careers as educators. Thus, it is critical that teacher leaders are in place to support teachers during their residency. To that end, the new Teacher Leader Endorsement will facilitate support of the teacher residency by preparing educators to serve as teacher leaders, as well as employing skills of working with adult learners, facilitating and leading change, managing conflict, and coaching and mentoring teachers at all stages of their careers. Additionally, teacher leaders will assist principals in developing and supporting a shared vision and clear goals for schools, and provide staff development, mentoring and coaching to teachers.
REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHER LEADER CANDIDATES
Candidates for the endorsement must hold a master's degree and have at least four years of teaching experience. Upon successful completion of an approved Teacher Leader Endorsement program, the endorsement will be added to a professional teaching license or professional/permanent teaching certificate.
OFF-CAMPUS COHORTS
Kent State University works in partnership with school districts to facilitate off-campus professional development programming for educators in the field. Off-campus cohorts offer reduced graduate tuition for courses instructed at a convenient location within the district.
TUSCARAWAS COUNTY COHORT DETAILS
The Tuscarawas Teacher Leader Endorsement cohort is tentatively slated to begin in the Fall 2012, at convenient locations in the Tuscarawas County area. Discounted graduate tuition is $326 per credit hour.
