The Special Education Program offers Certifications in five different areas of specialization.The certificates are offered at the undergraduate and/or graduate level based on the specific content area. The Certificates can be added to existing credentials in related fields (please note that an existing teaching license is not a prerequisite). Completion of the specified coursework will lead to a Kent State University Certificate.
To apply, students will apply directly to the specific Certificate program and follow the program specific admission requirements.
Autism Spectrum Certificate (ASC)
The Autism Spectrum Certificate Program provides students with the skills required to: Understand the theoretical conceptualization so ASD; develop evidence-based lifespan interventions; collaborate successfully as a member of an intervention team; support individuals with ASD being served within varied education contexts; and effectively address the needs of families.
Behavior Intervention Specialist Certificate (BISC)
The BISC Program concentrates on the theoretical orientation and practical applications of Applied Behavior Analysis. In addition, the Behavior Certification Board, Inc. (BACB) has approved our course sequence as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Examination (BCBA).

Early Intervention Certificate (EIC)
The Early Intervention Certificate Program provides students with the skills to work with young children with disabilities (birth trough three) and their families.After the completion of the coursework, the students are eligible to apply for the Early Intervention Certificate governed by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH/Help Me Grow) and is currently issued by County Boards of Developmental Disabilities who employ the largest number of early intervention providers in the State of Ohio.
