Program Overview

Purpose

A special award program administered through the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (EMSA) to recognize our employees who provide exemplary service to Kent State University, its students, internal and/or external constituents of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, or whose efforts enhance the focus of the Division's mission.

EMSA Mission

The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is to support the teaching and learning process and the development of the whole student by providing quality programs and services that enhance student learning and student success. The division also supports the institution through a focus on student recruitment and retention initiatives designed to enrich the university community and the lives of students, faculty, staff, families, and the larger community.

Employees whose efforts embody this mission and who demonstrate exemplary service to Kent State University students, or to other internal or external constituencies, may be nominated for the EMSA Employee Excellence Award.

Nomination Procedure

Each month, the nominator (defined below), an EMSA department director, interim director, associate vice president, executive administrator or dean will nominate/choose a contract or classified employee, full or part-time, or graduate assistant from his/her department that has demonstrated exemplary service.  Department Directors and employees in the Vice President's Office (EMSA) will not be eligible.  Nominations for the Center for Adult and Veterans Services, Center for Student Involvement, Office of Student Conduct and the University Bookstore have been combined due to the small number of eligible employees per unit and will be nominated by the appropriate administrator (stated below).

**Residence Services is represented twice due to large amount of employees.

The employee award winner will be notified via letter from the Vice President and will receive a framed Certificate of Excellence.  The recipient and nominator will be invited to lunch with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. An announcement will be circulated to the e-mail addresses of all Division employees.

An employee can be chosen to receive the Award only once during a five-year period.

Director's Responsibility

The department director, vice president, associate vice president, executive administrator or dean will be contacted via e-mail notifying them of their upcoming nomination approximately two weeks prior to the due date.  Nominations will be due the first business day of the award month according to the above schedule.  A reply e-mail is requested and should include the minimum of the name, title, and a brief description of the exemplary work performed by the employee (specific examples are much appreciated).

The Employee Excellence Award program is administered by Kerry Angle, Special Assistant,  Office of the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, 250 Kent Student Center. Scheduling for luncheons should be made through Patricia Dennison, Assistant to an Executive Officer.
