Centers and Institutes

Faculty in the Department of English direct learning and research centers:

  • The ESL Center offers intensive English language instruction for individuals and groups during the Fall and Spring semesters as well as during the Summer. We help students learn how to communicate and study in English and to gain a better understanding of the culture of the United States.

  • The Wick Poetry Center promote opportunities for emerging and established poets and poetry audiences locally, regionally and nationally. The program is endowed in memory of Stan and Tom Wick

  • The Center for Literature & Psychoanalysis has assumed a leadership role in developing psychologically and socially beneficial interactions between psychoanalysis and the study of culture and society.

  • The Institute for Bibliography and Editing fosters basic research in the Humanities and related areas that contribute to our knowledge and understanding of our political, social, and cultural heritage and to explore and lead the way in adapting computer technology to text processing and production.

  • The Center for Research and Workplace Literacy conducts basic research into the nature and function of literacy in actual workplace contexts and to develop theoretical and applied models of workplace literate practices that can inform business, industry, and community practices and improve undergraduate and graduate education in literacy.
