Advanced Writing

The Department of English at Kent State offers advanced courses in expository and argumentative writing at the junior level. These courses give students a chance to continue developing and refining the skills of the first-year sequence while pursuing expertise in a specialized kind of writing. Sample syllabi for courses are available from the Secretary of the Writing Program, 206 Satterfield Hall.

English 30064 Expository Prose Writing

This course is designed for students to develop experience with prose composition with emphasis on exposition and discussion of student work.  Individual section descriptions are available outside the English Department office, 113 Satterfield Hall.

This course may be used in partial fulfillment of the Writing and Language Studies requirement in the English Major and in partial fulfillment of the Writing Minor.

Prerequisites: Eng 21011 or equivalent, and Junior standing.

English 30065 Argumentative Prose Writing

This course is designed for students to develop experience writing argumentative essays, with emphasis on discussion of student work.  Individual section descriptions are available outside the English Department office, 113 Satterfield Hall.  

This course may be used in partial fulfillment of the Writing and Language Studies requirement in the English Major and in partial fulfillment of the Writing Minor.

Prerequisites: ENG 21011 or equivalent, and Junior standing.

English 30066 Writing in the Public Sphere

Writing course focusing on a multimodal service-learning project collaborating with peer and community partners in an online, hybrid or face-to-face delivery system. Individual section descriptions are available outside the English Department office, 113 Satterfield Hall.

Prerequisite: minimum grade of C- (1.7) in ENG 10002 or ENG 21011 or HONR 10297.
