1.1 Embed the four pillars of a 21st century KSU graduate – Knowledge, Insight, Responsibility, and Engagement – across the curriculum
- Improve the design and metrics of student and peer teaching evaluations to reflect the four pillars (Academic Affairs)
- Enhance student learning and success through quality programs, services, and living/learning environments (Enrollment Management and Student Affairs)
- Implement purposeful, intellectual, and social development to enhance the understanding of diversity, to include global awareness and global citizenry (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
- Market Kent State University’s distinctive educational experience (University Relations).
1.2 Fully implement a Graduation Planning System (GPS)
- Focus on improved academic success especially student retention and graduation (Academic Affairs; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
- Enhance diverse pipelines and college readiness (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
- Set and accomplish high expectations of academic achievement for student-athletes individually and teams (Intercollegiate Athletics)
- Widely promote GPS; encourage usage (University Relations)
- Install timetabling and tracking components of the Graduation Planning System (Information Services)
- Improve profiling and data analysis for student recruitment and retention via the Enterprise Data Warehouse (Information Services).
1.3 Enhance Destination Kent State (DKS)
- Achieve better integration of academic and student life (Academic Affairs; Enrollment Management and Student Affairs)
- Support DKS with enrollment-driven marketing (University Relations)
- Enhance the Web scheduler and integrate with CashNet in support of Destination Kent State (Information Services).
1.4 Roll out the Kent Core
- Enhance the quality and accessibility of Liberal Education Requirements (LER)/Kent Core courses (Academic Affairs)
- Ensure all courses in Kent Core have specified learning outcomes by 2013 (Academic Affairs).
1.5 Expand experiential learning, engagement in student life, and excellence in athletics
- Expand experiential education opportunities (Academic Affairs)
- Encourage undergraduate research (Research and Sponsored Programs)
- Enhance student learning and success through quality programs and services (Enrollment Management and Student Affairs)
- Enhance the quality, safety and effectiveness of living/learning environments for university students (Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; Business and Finance)
- Strengthen relationships with all communities served by Kent State campuses, with particular attention to expanding linkages between the Kent Campus and the city of Kent (Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; Business and Finance; University Relations)
- Create an intentional diversity focus relating to service learning and engagement of students (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
- Provide a highly competitive Division I intercollegiate athletics program as evidenced by conference and national program of excellence awards and championships (Intercollegiate Athletics)
- Promote the benefits of service learning and community service; make highly visible student life opportunities (University Relations; Enrollment Management and Student Affairs).
1.6 Enhance student service by operationalizing a “Year of Yes”

- Further enhance student systems with consistent and automated advisor models, improved wait list processing and online graduation application (Information Services)
- Implement workflow processes that provide efficient scheduling changes and change of majors (Information Services).
