Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement

Welcome to the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement (OEECE)!

The Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement (OEECE) was created out of Kent State University’s long-standing philosophy of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning. The OEECE serves as a unified structure which promotes experiential education as a pedagogical tool to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge and skills with civic activities that transform the whole student.

OEECE’s core values fall directly in line with the Kent State University Philosophy of Undergraduate Education ( link) and in response to the value placed on academic excellence and service to local communities, Kent State University has the desire and ability to develop students who are intellectually prepared, civically engaged and workforce ready. Thus, OEECE believes that deliberate interaction with public, private, and nonprofit community organizations is significant to student development and can be critical to facilitating social action that promotes well-being. In addition, engaged experiences within diverse communities and organizations create extended learning environments that subsequently facilitate cultural competence as well as the development and application of knowledge and skills.
