Graduate Awards and Scholarships
For information about external awards see the Kent State University Student Financial Aid website.
A number of scholarships are available to Kent State University Geology graduate students through the Department of Geology.
Donations to any of the scholarship accounts are gratefully accepted. They may be sent to Department of Geology, Kent State University, Kent OH 44242 at any time and will be deposited into the appropriate Foundation Account where they will augment the funds used to award the scholarships. For more information about donation please contact Daniel K. Holm, Chair.
Please note that Masters students must have an approved research proposal, while Ph.D. students must have completed their comprehensive exam and have an approved research proposal to be eligible for some of these awards. Please check with the Graduate Coordinator, The College of Arts and Sciences, or the Graduate School to confirm the Spring semester deadline for filing your research proposal. Information about these awards can be obtained in the Department of Geology office.
Amoco Alumni Scholarship
A monetary award presented to Geology graduate students based upon their research support needs, academic standing, and the quality of their thesis/dissertation project. NOTE: Research proposal must have been successfully defended. Download PDF Application Form
Katherine L. Moulton Memorial Scholarship
A monetary award presented annually to a Geology graduate student based on excellence in research.
Kent State Association of Engineering Geologists Research Award
A monetary award presented to Geology graduate students based upon their research support needs and academic standing. The student's research proposal must have been accepted by the application date. Download PDF Application Form
Sigma Gamma Epsilon Glenn Frank Field Camp Scholarship
A monetary award presented to Geology graduate students registered for that semester's Summer Field Camp Course, and are a current member of SGE. Download PDF Application Form

School of Hard Rocks Scholarship
A monetary award presented to Geology graduate students based upon their research support needs, academic standing, and the quality of their thesis/dissertation project.
Outstanding M.S. Student
A certificate presented to an academically superior graduate student who, in the current academic year, obtains the M.S. degree in Geology and who is judged by the faculty to be the outstanding M.S. student.
Outstanding Ph.D. Student
A certificate presented to an academically superior graduate student who, in the current academic year, obtains the Ph.D. degree in Geology and who is judged by the faculty to be the outstanding Ph.D. student.
