EXCELLENCE in Action: Aspire, Prepare, Create

Incoming Freshmen

To apply to the Honors College, submit a Kent State admission application during the fall semester of your senior year in high school. Your application to Kent State must be completed by January 15 to be eligible for university merit scholarships and Honors College admissions.

There is no separate application to the Honors College and no additional application fee. Once you have been admitted to Kent State and should you meet our minimum requirements for admission- 3.70 gpa and 27 ACT Composite (1210 SAT Reading and Math), we will automatically receive your name and credentials from the Admissions Office. You would then receive a letter of invitation to join the Honors College shortly thereafter.

Each Honors-eligible student is evaluated for an Honors Scholarship. To receive a scholarship from the Honors College, students need a 3.80 gpa and a 29 ACT Composite (1290 SAT Reading and Math).

If you plan to visit the campus, please schedule a tour with the Admissions Office. If you would like to visit us at the Honors College; please call (330) 672-2312 to request an appointment.

College Applicants

The Honors College curriculum is designed to provide enhanced and challenging coursework for undergraduates.  Most students enter the program as freshmen; however, you may apply to join after one semester of college coursework with a 3.3 or higher college GPA.  Admission to the Honors College is selective. The application deadline for fall semester is June 15; the application deadline for spring semester is November 15.

Students with 45 credit hours or more are required to write a Senior Honors Thesis/Project.  The thesis is a 10-credit-hour experience which students complete over three semesters.  If you are applying with 45 credit hours or more, your application essay needs to include specific information on how these ten credit hours will fit into your plans for your final three semesters as an undergraduate.

Scholarship Eligibility

If you are applying as a college student with a 3.5 or higher GPA, you may be eligible to apply for one of our $1,000 Honors Academic Achievement Awards (HAAA).  Should you not be eligible for an Honors scholarship at this time, you may apply for a HAAA after completing two semesters in Honors as long as you have a 3.5 or higher GPA at Kent.
