Description

The Truman is a competitive national fellowship that funds students interested in public service careers.  The foundation reviews over 600 applications for their 60 to 65 awards annually.  Students apply as juniors and are funded for the senior year and two years of graduate school.

Eligibility

A candidates applying for a Truman scholarship must:

• Be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree with junior-level academic standing, have senior-level standing in their third year of college enrollment, or be a senior and a resident of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, or a Pacific Island.
• Be a U.S. citizen or expect to receive citizenship by the date the scholarship will be awarded.

Application:

An Institutional nomination is required.  Interested applicants should contact Kent State Faculty Representative Dr. Joseph Drew.

All applicants are required to submit the following:

• An Institutional Nomination form and letter
• Three additional letters of Recommendation
• A recent transcript
• A 14 question application
• A policy proposal

Application Schedule and Deadlines

Truman Application Deadline:      Early February
Finalist Confirmation Form Due:  Mid February
Finalist Posting:                               Mid February
Regional Review Panels:              March through April
Scholar Posting:                              April
