Staff Professional Accomplishments
Curtis J. Clark, Residence Hall Director, was appointed by the Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers (GLACUHO) to serve on the Contemporary Issues Committee, which was created in order to address a relevant topic within Housing and Residence Life for the duration of the 2012-2013 year. The committee is proud to focus on Student Leadership Organizations and Advising for this year where they will focus on the integral part student leader’s play within our departments, and the role of advisors for these students and organizations. Curtis will be working to develop GLACUHO membership's understanding of the sub regional, regional, and national student leadership organizations found within our field and region to enhance virtual resources for current and future advisors of residential leadership programs.

Beth Chambers, Residence Hall Director, serves as a Program Previewer for the 2013 NASPA Annual Conference/Meeting to be held in Orlando, Fl. In this role, she reviewed conference proposals submitted by professionals in the field who have expressed an interest in presenting at the national conference.The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) is the leading association for the advancement, health and sustainability of the student affairs profession. We serve a full range of professionals who provide programs, experiences and services that cultivate student learning and success in concert with the mission of our colleges and universities. Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director for Residence Education, was selected by the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I) the housing professional association for housing professionals in higher education to lead a video project called “Pillars of the Profession” in interviewing eighteen Chief Housing Officer (Director of Housing and Residence Life). As many of these distinguish Chief Housing Officers will be retiring over the 4-8 years, the Association desired to use this platform to capture each of their legacies of experience, knowledge, skills, and professional competencies as a way in celebrating their contributions and voices, in preparing a new generations of housing professionals to understand and concentrate on those key professional standards, models of best practices and trends, ideas, and values that have led many of our housing pillars to date.

David Taylor, Ph.D., Associate Director for Assignments and Accounting, earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration program in the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University. Dr. Taylor’s dissertation focuses in on “The development of an instrument to assess perceptions of residence director job satisfaction.” The department is extremely proud and overjoyed for Dr. Taylor in recognition of earning his Doctor of Philosophy.
Katie Sorokas, Residence Hall Director and Josh Roush, Assistant Residence Hall Director, are serving a term appointment of one year on the 100 Commitments Committee, a University system wide committee representing Kent State main campus and its regional campuses. 100 Commitments Committee is under the auspice of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

Kim Ferguson, Assistant Director for Residential Communities, Laura Forchione, Residence Hall Director and Samantha Woolverton, Assistant Residence Hall Director, are serving on the 11th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Planning Committee. The MLK annual event is a signature University community cultural celebration of music, word and dance that takes place every fourth week during the month of January, in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director for Residence Education, was appointed Co Chair of the Institutional Climate, Culture and Community Relationship Sub Committee, a subcommittee of the University Diversity Action Council a system wide committee throughout Kent State University main campus and regional campuses.
Holmes-Hope was appointed by Dr. Alfreda Brown, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to serve a term appointment of one year. Josette Skobieranda Dau, Assistant Director for Residential Communities, was appointed to the Student Multicultural Center Advisory Board, a department within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kent State University. Skobieranda Dau was appointed by Shana Lee, Director of the Student Multicultural Center. She will serve a term appointment of two years. Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director for Residence Education, was appointed Regional Representative, NASPA IV East African-American Knowledge Community (AAKC). Holmes-Hope was appointed to a two year term appointment by the NASPA AAKC Executive Board.

Audrey Batista, Jonathan Adams and Michelle Daymon, was appointed to the Graduate Association of Student Personnel Practitioners (GRASPP), a Graduate Student Association that provides opportunities for graduate students in the Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel Program at Kent State University. Each of them will serve a one year term appointment on the board.
The mission of the Graduate Association of Student Personnel Practitioners (GRASPP) is to offer personal and professional development opportunities for graduate students in the Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel Program at Kent State University. GRASPP will achieve this mission by coordinating and/or facilitating professional development seminars, as well as providing information about various professional development opportunities, actively participating in community service projects, and planning and hosting social functions. Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director for Residence Education, was appointed to the Professional Standards National Committee for the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). Committee members review and develop policies and procedures for ACUHO-I’s Ethical Principles and Standards for the Association. They also coordinate and plan the Standards Institute.
