In support of the University and the mission of the Department of Residence Services, Kent State's University's resident assistants have been helping to fight hunger and poverty in portage county. 170 resident assistants, staff, and professional staff helped went to numerous agencies around portage county on March 3rd to help fight the issue of hunger. 

The Mission of the Department of Residence Services:
"The Department of Residence Services is committed to enhancing and complementing the academic and personal development of students by cultivating and nurturing values that emphasize self-awareness, engagement in learning, responsible citizenship, support and development of relationships, and the honoring of human differences for a just community.

To support this effort, each hall is assigned a local community agency, entering into a partnership for hall staff to engage students in service with their community. This effort fosters learning, as well an understanding of hunger and poverty in residence hall students. This typically involved two or three visits to the agency by the hall each semester. As part of this initiative residence hall students engaged in over 900 hours of service this year alone.  Residence Services began this commitment in 2008.
