The School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers Kent State students a selection of specialized majors, all of which lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Where to Find Information
You can find detailed information and choose from our Journalism and Mass Communication undergraduate majors in the University's GPS. If you have additional questions about the JMC majors, we encourage you to make an appointment with one of our advisers.
When to Declare
If you have been admitted to Kent State University you can become a JMC major immediately upon entering KSU. If you are unsure of your area of interest, you can learn more about our programs by visiting Franklin Hall, the home of Kent State's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. You can make an appointment for a "Shadow Day" or another tour opportunity.
Current KSU students wishing to change to a JMC major must have a 2.75 overall GPA at Kent State. If you would like to change or declare your major, please make an appointment with a JMC advisor. It's best to declare or change your major as soon as you're certain about your interests. Then you can get on the right track to obtaining your degree.
How to Learn More
In your first semester as a Journalism major at Kent State University, you will take an orientation class taught by a JMC instructor. You will also be assigned a professional academic adviser who will be available to help you with scheduling and other curricular matters. You also may contact Greg Blase, JMC Associate Director, via e-mail or through the main JMC office at 330-672-2572 with additional questions about JMC majors.
JMC Major Requirements
