Day One at JMC
Welcome to JMC and to the first day of Fall semester and the 2013-2014 academic year. Whether this is your first day at Kent State University or are returning to school, day one is the equivalent of opening day in the major leagues – the chance to stretch your muscles, get the “feel” of the playing field and start off well.
At JMC, we’ll give you plenty of opportunities to have a great start, starting today. As you begin classes – and especially if you are new – arrive at class on time and sit up front (we promise the view is better). Introduce yourself to your professors. Starting a relationship from day one will help you later if you have questions. Read the syllabi (yes, there is actually a purpose to them) and develop a plan for how you’ll manage your time.
We encourage you to get involved early with the terrific opportunities we offer outside the classroom, too. Whether you’re a brand new freshman or returning senior, you can participate in our nationally awarded independent Student Media from day one. Pick your passion: TV, radio, newspaper, magazine, website, apps. We’ll accommodate your interests.
You can also get involved, on day one, with our student professional organizations, including the Public Relations Student Society of America or the American Advertising Federation student chapter. Or, perhaps you prefer Kent State University’s Independent Films. Your advisors can help you make these connections.
Your time in college goes by fast: the typical college experience lasts 1,357 days. How well you use those days is up to you. We’ll do all we can to help you make the most of the experience.
Finally, our best advice: take a deep breath and be calm. You’ve joined a community at JMC. We share your interests and we want you to succeed.
