The format of the qualifiers has been voted on and has changed [officially] over to the new style of exams in the Fall of 2005. Below is the information on qualifying exams and the passing scores needed for the new format.

FORMAT

PURE MATH: The 2 exams to be taken are 'Algebra' and 'Analysis'.
Passing Scores are...

To pass at Master's level you need: 100 (50+ in each field),
An examination committee will review scores above 80 to determine if they should pass.
To pass at Doctoral level you need: 140 (60+ in each field),
An examination committee will review scores above 120 to determine if they should pass.

APPLIED MATH: Choose 3 exams from Numerical, Probability, Statistics, or possibly Algebra, Analysis.
Passing Scores are...
To pass at Master's level you need: 180 (50+ in each field),
An examination committee will review scores above 150 to determine if they should pass.
To pass at Doctoral level you need: 210 (60+ in each field),
An examination committee will review scores above 180 to determine if they should pass.
