James Dalton, interim dean for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, has accepted an extended two-year appointment as dean of the CAED, announced Provost Robert G. Frank. A search will be launched near the end of his appointment for a new dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design.

In 1984, Dalton joined the Kent State community as a professor and director of the School of Architecture, coming from Clemson University and as a partner in Dalton and Jacques, Architects. From 1984 to 1999, he served as director of the School of Architecture and Environmental Design and as interim dean in 2005 as architecture transitioned from a school to a college. In addition to his more than 30 years of experience as a professor and administrator, he holds the distinction as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Fewer than two percent of all registered architects in the United States are elected to fellowship in the AIA for outstanding contributions to the field. He was also awarded the AIA Ohio Gold Medal in 1998, the highest award given by the organization.
