If you like to sing, there is a choir for you...
Choral music has always been an important part of the musical life of Kent State University. Each year the choirs perform on campus and throughout the region and state. In the past few years, the choirs have sung with The Cleveland Orchestra, Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, and other area orchestras. The KSU Chorale toured Italy for eleven days performing in Florence, Rome, Venice, and Greve. Ensembles are open to all students regardless of major. A person's level of involvement is dependent upon one's interest, time, and musical and vocal maturity.
One unique aspect of the KSU Choral Music Program is that emphasis is placed not only on performance but also on the development of students' musical literacy. We don't just talk and wish we could become better sight readers -- we do something about it. The statement you will hear frequently from the KSU choral directors is "We don't want you to learn this piece of music. We want you to learn the music in this piece." If you have a desire to improve your musicianship and your vocal skills, perform with fine orchestras, and experience some of the finest choral music ever written, then come sing with us.
