World-Renowned Scientist Ron Mallett to Keynote College of Nursing's “Driving the Future 2013” Kent State University’s College of Nursing presents “Driving the Future 2013,” an event focused on inspiration and innovation and their roles in the education, science and healthcare of the future. The event will take place on Monday, March 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature a series of TED TALK-style presentations. The event will take place at the Kent Student Center with morning sessions at the Kiva. Registration is required by Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Kent State East Liverpool’s Nursing Lab Receives $70,000 in Upgrades Through a matching grant provided by the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association (OMEGA), Kent State University at East Liverpool was able to make more than $70,000 in equipment upgrades to its nursing laboratory. Half of the funding was provided by the state through the Appalachian Regional Commission. The remaining funds were provided by Kent State East Liverpool. Recently, all the equipment purchasers were finalized.

Two Kent State Professors Will Bike Three Hours to Work to Mark National Bike to Work Day Kent State University College of Nursing professors Peggy Doheny, Ph.D., and Ann Jacobson, Ph.D., will ride their bicycles to work on Friday, May 18, to mark National Bike to Work Day. Doheny and Jacobson, both in their 60s, will ride about 30 miles to work in Kent, Ohio, from Jacobson’s home in South Russell, Ohio.

Professor’s Passion Inspires Students Associate Professor Susan Taft’s first memory of teaching was as a doctoral graduate student standing in front of a class of students, trying to keep her knees from knocking and her hands from shaking. Kent State Partners with Lake Health and Lakeland Community College to Expand Nursing Program Kent State University at Ashtabula is partnering with Lake Health and Lakeland Community College to expand educational opportunities for nurses in Northeast Ohio. The new arrangement allows registered nurses with an associate degree to obtain a bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.) degree from Kent State by attending classes at Lake Health’s TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township, Ohio.

Free Health Clinic at Kent State Salem Nov. 4th Kent State University at Salem will offer a free health clinic on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the campus' main lobby. Kent State Salem is located at 2491 St. Rt. 45 S, in Salem. Free screenings include those for the ears, kidneys and blood pressure will be provided.

Kent State’s College of Nursing Receives Scholarship Funding Kent State University’s College of Nursing has received funding to award 10 $10,000 scholarships from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) through the RWJF New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program. This is the third consecutive year that Kent State has received the RWJF scholarship assistance, bringing the total amount of funding in three years to $400,000.

Kent State Nursing Professor Receives Fulbright Scholar Grant Dr. Ratchneewan Ross, an associate professor in Kent State University’s College of Nursing, has received a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach and conduct research in Thailand. Ross will teach research methodology to graduate students and doctoral candidates at five universities in Thailand from June to October 2010. While in Thailand, she also will conduct seminars for nursing faculty and conduct her own research project.

Governor Names KSU a Center of Excellence in Biomedicine/Health Care Gov. Ted Strickland, together with the Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut, today announced Kent State as a Center of Excellence in Biomedicine and Health Care for the state of Ohio. Kent State joins 13 other universities throughout the state to receive this distinction.
