2011 Celebration of Scholarship
Since 1995, the University Research Council has sponsored a Celebration of Scholarship event annually. For 2011, Celebration of Scholarship is scheduled for Friday, April 15. The events that comprise the celebration showcase research and creative activity and acknowledge, reward and support the culture of research and inquiry at Kent State University. All of the events are free and open to the public. Registration is required for the Distinguished Scholar Awards Luncheon.
The events for Celebration of Scholarship on April 15 include:
- From 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., student posters, exhibits, demonstrations and performances from each college will be held in the public areas of the University Library
- From 11 a.m. – 1p.m., the Distinguished Scholar Awards will be presented at a luncheon event in Room 306 of the Kent Student Center. The 2011 award recipients are Theodore Albrecht, Ran Barniv, and Declan Keane. Registration is required to attend the luncheon.
- From 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. a Faculty Recognition Program Reception will be held on the first floor of the University Library. Plated books will be on display and commemorative booklets will be available. Provost Robert Frank will recognize the faculty members who have received tenure and/or promotion in the last year. Family, friends, and colleagues are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
2011 Celebration of Scholarship is organized and sponsored by the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs, University Libraries, and Division of Graduate Studies.

Distinguished Scholar Awards Luncheon

Three Distinguished Scholar Awards (DSA) are given annually for outstanding research and/or creative activities by tenured/tenure-track faculty members at Kent State University.
On behalf of the University Research Council, we wish to congratulate three outstanding faculty members for winning the 2011 Distinguished Scholar Award. We applaud them for their notable scholarly contributions that have brought acknowledgement to their fields of study and to Kent State. The winners of the 2011 Distinguished Scholar Award are:
Dr. Theodore Albrecht, School of Music, (Musicology and Ethnomusicology)
Dr. Ran Barniv, Department of Accounting
Dr. Declan Keane, Department of Physics
Since the program's inception in 1997, 42 faculty members have been selected as winners of the honor. Kent State faculty members annually nominate their tenured/tenure-track and emeriti peers for the Award.

Faculty Recognition Program Reception

The first Faculty Recognition Program Reception will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 pm on the first floor of the Kent State Main Library. Faculty who have received tenure and/or promotion in the last year will be honored. Each honored faculty member submitted the title and bibliographic information for a book that has had some significance to them and their personal or professional success. Plated books will be on display and commemorative booklets will be available. The selected titles will remain on public display in the Main Library following the event. Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
