The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) serves as a resource on all aspects of externally funded sponsored projects. This includes negotiating and accepting agreements on behalf of the university and providing guidance on administrative issues. It assists faculty and staff in preparing proposals through guideline interpretation, budget preparation and adherence to university policies and federal regulations. When time permits, we can also review and edit proposal drafts. As agencies issue new regulations or revise old ones, we keep the university community informed, monitoring proposals for the required adjustments. OSP:
Kent State researchers use an electronic system, Coeus, for proposal submission, research compliance, and grants management, and OSP can provide assistance with Coeus. In addition, online training through the CITI program may be required for individuals participating in research.
A sponsored project is any externally funded research or scholarly activity that has a defined scope of work or set of objectives that provide a basis for sponsor expectations. This involves research, demonstration, professional development, instruction, training, curriculum development, community and public service or other scholarly activity involving funds, materials, other forms of compensation or exchanges of in-kind efforts under awards or agreements. For a full definition, visit the RASP Intranet.
Sponsored Programs staff members are available to meet with faculty and staff to discuss research or other project interests. They can help faculty identify, acquire and manage external funding. New faculty and staff should schedule an appointment with a staff member of OSP, who can help with transfer of current awards and provide information on related resources at Kent State.
