What is CITI Training?

CITI is an acronym for Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. The CITI program is a subscription service providing research ethics education to all members of the research community. The fee is paid by KSU for you to complete the training.

Do I need to complete CITI training?

Online CITI training is required for ALL KSU researchers conducting human subject research. This includes
  • Principal Investigators and Co-investigators
  • Students
  • Faculty advisers for students conducting research
  • Faculty requiring students to conduct research for a course
  • Visiting scholars

What happens is I lose the completion certificate or cannot print it out?

Contact the Research Compliance Office.

What happens if I go to another institution and want to do research there. Do I have to repeat CITI training?

Usually not. Most institutions recognize and accept CITI. Training is valid for three years and after that you must complete the refresher course.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The KSU Compliance Office can only access KSU records. If you are coming from another institution you must present your certificate to us.

I am working with an investigator from another institution. Can they complete CITI training?

Yes. A KSU email is not required to complete the training.

The KSU IRB accepts NIH Protecting Human Research Participants training certificates.
