Biomedical Sciences

Kent State is internationally recognized for its biomedical research with expertise in the life and physical sciences, the social sciences, nursing, and public health.  Our research includes close collaborations with world-class medical schools and clinical institutions, and focuses on solving challenging health problems including traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, the effects of aging, addiction and pain management, to name a few.  Our approach to these problems is multidisciplinary in nature and involves researchers from such diverse disciplines as neurobiology, psychology, gerontology, sensor development and implantable medical devices.

One example of Kent State’s collaborative biomedical research environment is illustrated by our focus on healthy living and aging. Our approach, imaginative and creative, views aging as a holistic condition that requires many different perspectives to understand. Our experts study the physical, mental, emotional, social and financial well-being of our aging population and create new therapies and techniques to address their needs. Researchers lead investigations in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, degenerative disease, caregiving, public health, ergonomics, appropriate living spaces and assistive devices.

We invite you to explore our biomedical sciences research in our variety of disciplines from Biological Sciences and Biochemistry to the School of Health Sciences, College of Public Health and College of Nursing.
