Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.)
Kent State offers the only American Library Association-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree program in Ohio, preparing students for positions of leadership in librarianship and the information professions. Students can complete the degree in a combination of on-site and online courses at the Kent Campus or Columbus site, or completely online through the eDegree option. Courses may be offered as online and on-campus (in Kent or Columbus) classes, on-campus only, online only, or in a blended method of delivery. A significant number of courses are offered only online.
Graduates with the M.L.I.S. degree go on to fill various kinds of positions in libraries, information agencies, museums and cultural organizations and companies of all sorts and sizes. Many M.L.I.S. graduates go on to positions in other areas of the information field besides libraries — in research, for example, or publishing, information management, competitive business intelligence and more. Find out what you can do with this major, and open the door to hundreds of career opportunities.

The eDegree option is designed for students intending to complete their entire M.L.I.S. degree online.
Kent State University allows students to work on two master's degrees concurrently. The following are approved for students in the School of Library and Information Science:
Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Business Administration (M.L.I.S./M.B.A.)
Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Science in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (M.L.I.S./M.S. in IAKM); details can be found on the IAKM website.
Persons with an outstanding undergraduate record or exemplary professional credentials may apply for early admission to the M.L.I.S. program. Consult the Undergraduate Catalog for details.
Master of Science in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM)
The interdisciplinary M.S. in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM) offers concentrations in health informatics, knowledge management and user experience design. M.L.I.S. students may take up to 12 credit hours in IAKM as electives toward their degree. Students who are looking for electives to round out their M.L.I.S. education, and especially those interested in special librarianship, should consider taking an IAKM course or two. Click the heading above for more information and download a brochure that highlights some recommended IAKM courses for M.L.I.S. students.
