The Academic STARS (Student Achieving and Reaching for Success) Program is designed for newly enrolled Kent State University freshmen who are African-American, Latino or Native American. The program helps to prepare students for their college experience with opportunities to build a solid academic foundation, achieve excellence in education and develop leadership qualities.

Since its inception in 1990, the program has enabled numerous participants in interacting with other students who share in common goals, achievements and accomplishments; participating in campus organizations and holding leadership positions; and contributing to building a foundation for supportive and diverse campus community.
