Program Description
Academic STARS
Academic STARS is a 35-week program delivered in three phases, a Summer Institute, Fall and Spring semesters. The program begins with an intense five-week Summer Institute designed to prepare students for their academic careers at Kent during a time where the pace is less hectic. Students are enrolled in two college courses designed to meet the Kent Core (General Education Requirements). These courses include:
- Interpreting the Black Experience I (3 credit hours)
- College English I (3 credit hours)
In addition to taking classes, students are housed on campus with peer leaders who are responsible for enhancing the academic, personal, cultural, physical and social development of each participant. Participants are also involved in study tables throughout the week and volunteer in Kent and surrounding communities.
