The minor in Criminology and Justice Studies

A minor course of study in Criminology and Justice Studies can be pursued by any student working towards a baccalaureate degree at KSU.  The Justice Studies minor is useful in conjunction with majors in Psychology, Sociology, Political Science and Applied Conflict Management, as well as for those students interested in forensics (majoring in biology, for example) or federal law enforcement (who are majoring in accounting or a foreign language).  To declare the minor, make an appointment to see an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences in 105 Bowman Hall.

At the undergraduate level, the goals of the Program are to provide all Criminology and Justice Studies students with a broad understanding of the functions, roles, and critical issues within all of the components of criminal, juvenile, and civil justice. We seek to equip majors with the necessary knowledge, insight, and sensitivity to occupy positions in public and private criminal justice agencies and to encourage further professional development and graduate education.

Minor Requirements (24 hours total)

Core Required Classes(3 hours each):

• JUS 12000, Intro to Justice Studies      
• JUS 22300, Police Role                           
• JUS 26701, Corrections                            
• JUS 36702, Criminology                          

Plus 12 upper-division JUS hours with the exception of:

• JUS 45093, Variable Title Workshop        
• JUS 45096, Individual Investigation   
• JUS 46792, Internship 

Minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA
