Showcase of Excellence in Action
Kent State University is proud to serve as a model higher education institution by becoming the first public university in the state of Ohio to require teaching and learning strategies emphasizing community engagement and support. The Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement (OEECE) Showcase of Excellence in Action will recognize and celebrate faculty, students, and staff who committed their time and talents to address community needs through course-based experiential learning and service activities.The event will host a display of model service activities that have provided academic experience to students. The evening will also provide a chance to formally recognize outstanding service by members of the KSU community.
Award nominations are being accepted for:
New Service Initiative
This award will be presented to a student(s) who has developed a new service initiative or outreach anytime from May 2012 – current. The program will have had a strong impact on the campus and/or the community served and garnered student support for the issue(s)/outreach. Project should have demonstrated student engagement and should have met an expressed need in the community.
Student Volunteers of the Year
This award will go to a student in each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate level) whose service has demonstrated an impact on the community and has performed a minimum of 150 hours of community service. Nominees should demonstrate involvement in more than one area of engagement/service.
Most Impactful Service/Engagement Award
This award will be presented to a student, faculty and staff member who have contributed extraordinary service to their communities or who have been involved in coordinating a service project or program on the Kent State University campuses. The effort must have had a significant impact on the community served and engaged others in the University community.
Spirit of Service Award-Student
This award will go to students who have completed at least 100 hours of community service from May 2012 – current.
Regional Service Recognition
This award will recognize departments at Kent State University (includes regional campuses) for their engagement and dedication to providing assistance to others in their surrounding communities. Both curricular and co-curricular initiatives will be considered for recognition.
Outstanding Community Partner Recognition
These awards will recognize the efforts of campus and community based partners who have assisted us in the engagement of students in meaningful out-of-the classroom learning experiences.
