What is the Exploratory Major?
EXPLORE \ik-`splor\ verb 1 to search or travel through (a place) for the purpose of discovery. 2 to examine something carefully.
The Exploratory major at Kent State University is for students who want to explore the many majors that Kent State has to offer before formally declaring a degree-granting major. Many Exploratory students are unsure of what they want to major in, and therefore explore different majors and careers through coursework (up to 45 credit hours), self-reflection, and research before declaring their major. Other Exploratory students know what they want to major in, and are working towards the required G.P.A. to declare their desired major.
"I started my college career as an Exploratory major. I took Liberal Education Requirement courses and introductory courses in business. During my second semester at Kent State, I declared the Business Management major. I am happy because I made a well-informed decision about my major!"
