Darlene Rodriguez is co-anchor of the award winning “Today in New York” which airs weekday mornings from 4:30-7AM.  She is a frequent contributor to the “Today Show” and has been a newsreader on the weekend edition of the “Today Show,” where one of her stories was nominated for a national GLAAD Award.  Rodriguez joined WNBC from WCBS NewsRadio 88, where she was a general assignment reporter for four years. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter for Bronxnet cable television for a year where she covered some of the most compelling stories about the Bronx’s politics, growth, and renaissance. Since joining NBC 4, Rodriguez has anchored multiple Emmy award- winning newscasts including Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, the Newtown, CT. school shootings, and the Boston Marathon bombing.  She covered the Amadou Diallo shooting and the crash of Flight 587 en route to the Dominican Republic. She was the first television reporter from New York on the scene in Vieques, Puerto Rico when news broke about the clashes between residents and the U.S. Navy, and returned four times to cover the resulting developments. In addition, Rodriguez traveled to Rome to cover Pope John Paul II’s meeting with U.S. Cardinals regarding the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal.

Rodriguez is very active in the community outreach - she lends her time and talent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hudson Valley and the American Heart Association of Westchester, for which she wrote a forward for the book “Heart Smart.”  Darlene also works closely  with the Cristian Rivera Foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for a rare fatal brain tumor diagnosed in young children.  Rodriguez received the "Mujeres Destacadas (Outstanding Women) Award" in 2011 from El Diario La Prensa; was honored by Hispanic magazine with a “Latina Excellence” Award; was recognized by the City of New York and the town of White Plains, New York for prominently and proudly representing the Hispanic community in journalism; and received the Silurian Award for Best Spot News Coverage for her report on a Queens subway crash.
