From the Chair

The Department of Music offers a 59-credit major in music leading to the BS degree. The undergraduate program offers a general program of study with emphasis on theory, musicianship, history, and performance within a liberal arts college curriculum ( read more). The MAT degree provides students with the Masters component for New York State certification, and guides them through the remaining requirements for certification eligibility ( read more).

Professor Molly Morkoski introduces new recording

Professor Molly Morkoski introduces her new CD, entitled Threads. "The selections on this disc encompass my musical journey as a college and graduate student through my time as a beginning professional in New York City." Threads, on the Albany Records label, is available on Amazon and iTunes.This year Prof. Morkoski also received the School of Arts and Humanities Award for Scholarship. diana Prof. Diana Mittler-Battipaglia Wins Lehman College Distinguished Service Award
Since 1986, Prof. Battipaglia has presented over fifty major concerts featuring chorus members and orchestra members drawn from Lehman students, faculty, alumni and staff, high school students, and members of the community. “Dr B” is truly the heart and soul of the Music program at Lehman: her musicianship, scholarship and selfless dedication are a beacon providing artistry, education and enjoyment to generations of our Lehman and Bronx communities. Music Department to Host Ninth Annual Music Education Symposium - Summer 2012

Our annual symposium affords music educators opportunities for peer networking, and to earn academic credit towards fulfilling professional development requirements and salary increments. Five different courses are offered this year, in concert band literature, percussion methods, music therapy, piano, and ear training.

Music Department to host unique Music Improv Camp for Middle & High School Students

August 6 - 10, 2012

The only program of its kind in the United States!

This one-of-a-kind NYC summer camp experience offers singers, string, brass, woodwind, percussion, keyboard and guitar players the opportunity to learn and develop their skills for improvising in Blues, Jazz, Rock, Latin, World and Classical music styles.  Campers interact with like-minded musicians in a creative environment designed to promote learning and artistic freedom.
