Collection

The Performing Arts Library, located in room D-004 of the Center for the Performing Arts, houses approximately 66,000 items relating to the study and performance of music, theatre and dance; including over 379 journal titles; and provides online access to Oxford Music Online, Oxford Reference Online - Performing Arts, RILM, Naxos Music Library, Classical Music Library, Smithsonian Global Sound, Contemporary World Music, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Play Index, MLA International Bibliography and other databases.  The collection includes over 7,000 CDs, 2,200 DVDs and VHS tapes, 27,000 musical scores, 23,000 books, 1,400 reference titles, about 400 items in Performing Arts Special Collections and over 5,000 journal volumes.

The Performing Arts Library collection includes a solid foundation of western art music from all historic periods, complete editions of the works of major composers, scripts of standard theatre repertoire, as well as ever growing collections in the areas of play scripts, chamber music (including the John Mack Music Collection) operas, musicals, world music and Ohio musicians and performers.  Additional music, theatre and dance collections are housed in University Libraries' Special Collections and Archives, located in the Main Library.

The library supports Kent State University's School of Music, the School of Theatre and Dance, the Kent/Blossom Music Program and the John Mack Oboe Camp, as well as the music-information needs of the entire KSU community.
