As second-in-command to the President of the University and Chief Academic Officer, the Provost has overall leadership and general administrative responsibility for the University's planning process, academic programs and related support services, including faculty development, promotion, tenure and sabbatical leaves, academic budgeting, admissions, research, curricular planning and assessment. The Deans of the three Schools (Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Mathematics) and the Dean of Graduate Studies report to the Provost.

In addition, the Associate Provost, Assistant Provost, Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Planning, Director of Library Services, Registrar,  and Director of Admissions also report directly to the Provost.
