Application Fee

Please submit the fee of $75 by credit card or click that you will be sending the fee by check. Current NU students and alumni do not need to pay this application fee.


Three letters of recommendation are required to be submitted online. Check the online recommendation box to insure the request is sent to the recommenders (to the email address you provided).


Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate level institutions attended must be sent to Bouvé Graduate School of Health Sciences, 123 BK, 360 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115. List the college from which you received your BS/BA in rectangle 1 on the application. International students must submit their official transcripts to World Education Services for credentialing. Once you have received the verification of your degree and transcript from WES, it can be forwarded to the address above. (See for information about this process).

Test Requirements

Test requirements vary by program. Tests must have been taken within the past 5 years. A minimum score of 1000 on the combined GRE exams is requried and some programs may require more then 1000. See chart below.

Verification of Statistics (Nursing only)

Applicants for nursing programs must provide proof of having successfully completed a statistics course that includes probability theory and hypothesis testing.

Nursing License

Applicants for nursing programs must submit a copy of current license to practice nursing and copies of any other professional certifications (this does not apply to Direct Entry Nursing candidates).

How do I apply to the program I wish to attend?

All Bouvé Graduate programs have a link to the online application on their individual program page. See the word “Apply” in the left hand column.

Is there an Application Fee?

There is a $75 non-refundable application fee which can be paid by credit card or check. Application fee waivers are only provided to Northeastern alumni, current AmeriCorps program members, and to applicants that are affiliated to the Graduate Education for Minorities (GEM) Program or the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program. Proof of affiliation to any of these programs needs to be submitted to the graduate admissions office for approval. Applicants that are approved for this waiver should submit the online application by choosing the “pay by check” option.

Are recommendations necessary?

You will need 3 letters of recommendation. Check the online recommendation box and enter the e-mail address of your recommender. Our automatic system will send the necessary information to the entered e-mail address.

What should I write for my personal statement?

Your personal goal statement should briefly describe how you view the future of the field, what your goals are to be part of that future, and what brought you to pursue an advanced education degree in your chosen field. You may include any other information that you feel might be useful.

Do I need official transcripts of previous studies and degrees?

You are welcome to upload copies of your official transcripts, however, to complete your application you will have to provide official transcripts from all colleges attended. Please list your most recent degree in the first rectangle for listing colleges in which you have studied.

Are unofficial transcripts accepted during the admission process?

Effective March 2012, we will accept unofficial transcripts to complete applications. Official transcripts will only be required when a student is accepted. You will continue to have the option to submit official transcripts. We will not accept web-based transcripts or printouts from your student account. Transcripts should be uploaded to the application, faxed or scanned and e-mailed to our office to be considered unofficial.

What is the minimum GRE test scores?

A minimum score of 150 Verbal Reasoning and 150 Quantitative Reasoning is required for tests taken after August 1, 2011, and a minimum of 500 Verbal Reasoning and 500 Quantitative Reasoning is required for tests taken prior to August 1, 2011.

If I have studied in a college outside of the United States, what official information do you need?

Students from school systems that use English as the primary language (Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, etc.) do not need to verify their transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than English should submit their transcripts for verification by a credentialing agency.

International students whose country does not use English as the primary language must take a standardized language exam.

Once accepted and confirmed international students are required to submit an I-20 request, this form is required to obtain an F-1 nonimmigrant student or J-1 exchange visitor visa to study at a US academic institution.

What standardized language exams are accepted for international students?

Both the TOEFL and the IELTS exams are acceptable.

TOEFL | 3629 is the school code | 100 is the acceptable score |

IELTS* | School Code not needed | 7.0 is the acceptable score |

*Master of Public Program will only accept TOEFL.

Under what circumstances can the TOEFL/IELTS test be waived?

The TOEFL/IELTS test can only be waived if the applicant is from an English speaking country (e.g. Australia, England, Canada, etc), received a degree from an US institution or attended a school where all courses were taught in English.

Are prerequisite courses necessary for admissions?

Some programs do require prerequisite courses and have regulations as to where they can be taken. Please see the program web site for this information.

What kind of nursing licenses are accepted for the different nursing programs?

A US nursing license is required for all nursing programs other than the PhD and the Direct Entry programs. For the PhD a nursing license is required, but it does not have to be a United States license. The Direct Entry programs do not require nursing licenses.

Do the graduate nursing programs need other information for my application?

All nursing applicants must provide a copy of their current U.S. nursing license and copies of any professional certifications (this does not apply to Direct Entry Nursing candidates).
