This is an exciting time in healthcare and nursing in particular. According to a recent Gallup Poll, the public ranks nursing as the "most ethical" profession. In the newly enacted healthcare legislation passed by Congress, nurses are considered the critical backbone and life force of the delivery system. What does that mean for those considering nursing as a profession? It means that as a nurse you will carry an awesome responsibility-to improve the health outcomes of patients and their families. It also means that you must be among the best prepared of health professionals. Excellent preparation is just what we have to offer, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
As a Northeastern undergraduate nursing student, whether you are in the traditional 4 or 5 year undergraduate program, in the RN to MSN, or a Direct Entry (second degree, graduate student who needs to complete undergraduate nursing courses), you will be learning from world-class faculty who are practicing in their specialty areas. You will have the opportunity to apply your classroom learning in a wide array of healthcare settings that include Boston's world-renown hospitals and take advantage of premier simulation facilities. You will also learn how to provide care to people in their homes and in the community through placements at the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Care Network, Boston Public Health Commission, Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, and many others. Your clinical rotations in hospital and community settings will equip you to pursue employment in any specialization after graduation. The Co-Op experience enriches your education as you are immersed in a clinical setting for several months. You are part of the staff and can apply your classroom knowledge in a living laboratory-the clinical arena.
If you are coming to the School of Nursing to earn a Master's, PhD or DNP, your learning also will be guided by our senior faculty, nursing leaders who are expert advance practice nurses in their respective specialty areas.
