Engineering/Biotechnology

Co-op opportunities in engineering and technology cover a broad range of professional interests: Students can acquire a solid grounding in basic engineering skills, develop an acumen for research in leading edge technology, or combine engineering with business savvy to build their entrepreneurial abilities and potential.

The College of Engineering offers positions with more than 600 co-op employers in over three dozen states and in countries around the world. These employers range from internationally known corporations like General Electric, Intel, IBM and Lockheed Martin to small start-ups, and cover virtually every branch of engineering.

The study of engineering at Northeastern, however, is growing increasingly interdisciplinary, particularly in areas where knowledge-creation is the most dynamic: biotechnology and nanotechnology. These areas of engineering are also attracting faculty and students from pharmaceutical sciences, computer science, biology, chemistry, biomedical physics and other science disciplines. 

The research growing out of these technologies is leading to almost daily innovations in everything from manufacturing to medicine, an explosion of discovery that is amply reflected in the quality and variety of co-op positions open to students in these areas.

These research-based co-ops include cutting-edge work with leading companies, research hospitals, and medical schools, including Pfizer, Draper Laboratory, Genzyme, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
