Co-op Support Network

Northeastern’s cooperative education program supports students from the time they arrive on campus through their senior capstone course. Co-op starts with a co-op preparation course, which prepares you by honing your job search skills, such as résumé writing and interviewing. In addition, we provide you with tools and tips on how to conduct yourself in a professional manner, we offer advice about attire and relevant questions to ask the person who is interviewing you.

Prior to your first co-op cycle, you’ll meet with your co-op coordinator, who will help you sort through the available co-ops in your area of interest so you can apply for those that suit you best. While you are out on co-op, your coordinator will continue to provide support and advice, as needed, and he or she will also work with you to integrate your on-the-job experience into your course work. Co-op Connections, part of the Office of Residential Life, helps students navigate the logistics of co-op, such as finding a place to live in a new city if your co-op is outside the Boston area. Each time you return to classes from co-op, you’ll participate in activities such as: seminars, faculty conferences, writing assignments, and/or formal presentations to help you process what you learned. You’ll share the knowledge you gained in classroom discussions with your classmates.

This process culminates in the senior capstone course, in which students reflect on how all of their experiential learning activities, including co-op, research, service, and international experience, integrates with their classroom studies.
