  • About Us

General Studies is a freshman year program designed to help Northeastern students find academic success in their freshman year and beyond. We are a small program (approximately 180 students) in NU's very large community (more than 2,000 first-year students) in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts. General Studies students spend their freshman year immersed in a combination of first-year requirements, NU core courses, and introductory courses for their intended major. If students are unsure of what they would like to major in, that's fine, we can help them define their search and reach their goals. At the end of their successful General Studies’ year, students will be sophomores in one of Northeastern's seven undergraduate colleges.

The General Studies Program includes committed instructors, dedicated advisors, a nationally-certified peer tutoring program, and a purposefully small but highly-skilled and diverse student body. Welcome!
