more »img_1098 This past Fall semester, I taught my honors course on Environmental Justice Politics in the New Millennium. A major theme of the class is the notion that “not all people are polluted equally.” For example, communities of color in Massachusetts contain 23 times more waste sites per square mile than white communities. Similarly, these communities of color receive more than 10 times the amount of toxic chemical pollution. In fact, of the twenty most environmentally overburdened towns in the state, sixteen are communities of color.
more »21 Since I was young I’ve always had a love for the outdoors, but I never dreamt that I would get the chance to explore the Grand Canyon. Even after I applied and got accepted to the Partners in the Parks program I wasn’t sure which park I would go to. In the end I decided to try something completely new, and with the help of the honors program I was able to venture to the other side of the country, and go west of New York for the first time in my life.
