Spiritual Life

Rabbi Karen Silberman

Ordained as a rabbi from Hebrew College in June, 2010, I come to Northeastern as the Executive Director of Hiilel, a national Jewish campus organization, and as a university chaplain. I come to both positions with the conviction that the connection each individual has to their ‘still small voice’ is their path to a Judaism that is authentic—and thereby fulfilling and inspiring. I understand Judaism (as all religions!) as a lens through which we see our lives—clarifying and focusing the things that can make our lives meaningful and rewarding.

I am here for the students: I come to this job with experience as a CPA, headhunter, trustee, chaplain, rabbi, mother, and seeker, and a passion for connecting students, faculty, alumni, neighbors, and seekers to the many faces of Judaism and to each other. I see my role as rabbi/teacher as primary in this process: leading by example, and encouraging each student to think critically, and Jewishly, about the world.
